Social Media Classes: 5 Important Social Networking Tips

Follow these five tips to improve the effectiveness of your social media efforts!

With each day, more and more businesses around the country get involved in social media. Whether you are just getting started or a veteran looking to review, there are plenty of things that you can do to improve your social media efforts. In this Social Media Classes tip, we’ll go over five important social networking tips.

1. Understand the Importance of Social Media to Your Business
Some people just hop on social media platforms because “everyone else is doing it”. With this attitude, you can’t possibly get the most out of your social networking efforts because you don’t even know what your goals are! While the obvious goal of social media is to eventually lead to more sales, think more specifically and flesh out your goals; what niche market are you going after? What is the best way to attract them? Set goals early and stick to them!

2. Choose the Platforms that are Right for You!
A diverse social media portfolio is helpful to have, as it gives you a chance to attract customers from more platforms. But stretching yourself too thin across multiple platforms can cause your effectiveness across all of them to drop. Think about your business and which platforms best suit it, and focus your social media efforts around those ones.

3. Have Attractive Pages and Profiles
You social media page or profile gives you the opportunity to tell someone visiting your social media page what you and your small business are all about. Don’t waste this valuable space! Choose attractive images and write a bio that lets people know who you are and where they can find out more about you (your website and blog).

4. Be consistent with your “voice”
Do you want your account to be silly and fun, or extremely professional? Somewhere in between? Whatever voice best suits you and your brand, come to that decision and stick with it! By staying consistent in how you post, you will give potential followers a clear indication of what they can expect when the follow you. An inconsistent voice usually comes off as phony.

5. Be social!
Don’t spend all of your time on social media just talking to yourself! Tweet back when people tweet to you on Twitter, and reply to your comments on Facebook and Pinterest. Immersing yourself in the conversation shows off your knowledge of the material and your appreciation of your customers.
