The importance of using keywords within your own social media efforts!

Keywords are the breadcrumb trail that connects everything in the online world. This Social Media Classes tip will show you how to use keywords in all your social media in order to be found by others in your target market niche.

As a basic part of SEO, or search engine optimization, we all know that to get up into the search engine rankings we need to strategically use keywords in our blog posts and pages for the search terms that our target market niche is most likely to be using. But what about getting found on the social networks? YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world. Twitter has over 2 billion search queries every day and more than 58 million tweets. Facebook has way over a billion active users and has over 648,000 new pieces of content shared every minute.

The social networks are there to connect people, which means that they design the content shared on their network to be discoverable. This means that you need to be thinking about how you and your business are going to be found within the social networks in which you participate. Great content gets found because it gets retweeted, shared, and commented on. However, it is also important to remember to add your keywords within your social media activities as well!

Here are a few tips to make sure that you are making the most of your social media marketing efforts when posting onto the social networks. Make sure that when you insert your keywords that they are used naturally. You don’t want anything to sound awkward or forced!

  • Just like Jenny did above, make sure to include your keywords into the bio section on all your social networks.
  • Place keywords into your social media posts so that they relate well to the main topic of that post.
  • Use your keywords in hashtags (i.e. #socialmediatip) on places like Twitter, Pintertest, Instagram and Google+. Check out the use of hashtags in the Pinterest image below.
  • Something that works well, but is a bit limiting is to put your keywords into the name and “vanity” URL for your social networks.
