Social Media Courses: What is Google Suggest Suggesting?
Use Google Suggest to get a feel for what your target market is searching for!
Finding good keywords to target is an important aspect of your search engine optimization strategies. Once you have an idea of what people in your niche are searching for, you can use those search terms in your content to work your way up the search rankings. In this Social Media Courses tip, we’ll talk about how you can use Google Suggest to find new keywords.
How Google Suggest Works
Google Suggest is an auto-completion tool that Google installed to make searches more convenient for users. Google takes the first word (or words) of your search and generates suggestions based on things that you and others have searched in the past.
For example, typing in “how do” on Google will offer suggestions such as “how do you take a screenshot on your computer” or “how does PayPal work?” These are common searches that begin with “How do”, and Google is filling in suggestions for me in a drop down below the search box.
How to Use this to Your Advantage
Google Suggest’s suggestions can be helpful to your small business in multiple ways. For one, it can help you generate new popular keyword ideas around your niche for you to focus on. It also gives you the added boost of automatically suggesting these searches to others; so if you have done your homework and worked your way up those search results, it should pay better dividends!
Let’s say you work in the weight loss injury. Typing in “Diet” pulls up the following common searches: “Diet plans”, “Diet pills”, “Diet Coke” and “Diet foods”. With this information, you know that many people starting their search with the word “diet” are going to get these results! It is importnat for you to focus on longtail keywords, or phrases with a 3, 4, 5 or more keywords in them. That will be much less competitive for you, and much more successful over time! Many sites that have huge traffic do so by compiling lots of traffic over a lot of different longtail keywords!
Once you have compiled a list of keywords that involve your target market, you can validate them with the Google Adword Keyword Tool. Typing in the keywords you have compiled will give you data on how often these terms are searched, and give you even more suggestions in the process.
Keyword selection is important to your search engine optimization (SEO) strategies. Make sure to use all of the tools at your disposal, including Google Suggest!
