Social Media Training Tip #6
Prospecting And Your Facebook News Feed
Facebook has recently enhanced the “Most Recent” option in your Facebook newsfeed, creating a great prospecting tool in the process. There is now a drop-down menu below the “Most Recent” link that includes an assortment of choices from just looking at photos, status updates, Pages or all of your lists of friends. Supposedly, Mark Zuckerberg said that no one was really using the friends list feature much…but that might change dramatically now.

Just like it is so hard to look at the stream of tweets from your entire follower list on Twitter, it is also very hard to look at your newsfeed at all at once as well. Now you can quite easily switch between different groupings of friends, including those that you have friended as prospects. A big part of the prospecting process is keeping tabs on them and staying in touch. There is no better way to do that than to watch for their own updates and comment. This shows that you are taking an active interest in them!
I also use lists to stay in touch and keep track of clients as well! It is so easy to change between lists, there is no excuse not to dig more strategically into your Facebook friends.
So our tip is to make sure your are making good use of the friends list features. Without them your are pretty much out of luck to use Facebook to it’s fullest as a prospecting or client relations tool.
