How To Keep Readers On Your Blog.

Steve | August 22, 2016

We spend a lot of time creating unique content and marketing it via social media platforms but what can we do to keep our visitors reading once they land on our sites?

This is a very important factor in facilitating conversions. The longer you can keep them on your blog, the more likely it is that they will see how much value you can add to their lives and convert into loyal readers and customers.

Here are some methods employed by professional bloggers to keep their visitors engaged and reading more of their content.

Niche Specific Content.

This is by far the most important tool that you have at your disposal. As long as a reader can identify their needs in your content, they will keep reading to find out what solutions you can offer. Like we always recommend at PSMU, choose a niche that you’re a part of, and everything else will come naturally to you. Readability.

According to Wikipedia, readability is the ease with which a reader can understand written text. The readability of text depends on its content (the complexity of its vocabulary and syntax) and typography (font size, line height, and line length).

This therefore means that you should endeavor to use simple, straightforward vocabulary, as well as short sentences and paragraphs so that your audience can understand your message with ease.

Other ways to improve readability include:

  • Using bullet points
  • Bolding the most important sections
  • Highlighting with color
  • Using pictures and graphics

Call To Action Buttons.

These are excellent for directing your readers to the next step in your conversion campaign.

For example, if the current post is a recipe, your call to action button can link them to another page where they can sign up to receive more recipes in their email inbox or even an ebook collection of similar recipes!

Popups can also be used in a similar way, and are great for capturing emails and other contact information. More on that here.

Displaying Related Content.

People commonly land on our blogs via specific post links that we have shared to our social media platforms. Once they finish reading the post that they came for, you need to make sure that they can easily find more content to read.

This can be done by adding links to related content within your posts.

You can also create a tag or category with your best content and display it in your main navigation as “most popular posts” or “best of” or something similar, so that new readers can easily access your most important content.

Another option is to utilize your sidebar ads.

The above are just a few ways in which you can make your content easily accessible to your readers and improve your chances of conversion.
